An endocrinologist spoke about the benefits of carbohydrates

Endocrinologist Ekaterina Young told us which carbohydrates should be included in your diet without harm to your health.

According to her, simple (monosaccharides and disaccharides) and complex (polysaccharides) carbohydrates behave differently in the body. The former contain berries, fruits, honey, sweets, and the latter – whole grain cereals, vegetables, unsweetened fruits, berries, herbs, legumes, and nuts.

The doctor explained that monosaccharides provide a quick but short burst of energy, as well as a sharp drop in sugar levels. Because of this, a person wants to eat sweets again. “This is how you become addicted to sweets,” Young warned, adding that excess glucose is converted into fat and stored on the waist and hips.

At the same time, complex carbohydrates are digested more slowly, do not cause spikes in blood sugar and provide a long-lasting feeling of satiety.

The endocrinologist urged not to be afraid of carbohydrates, since a person draws 70% of all energy from them. “In the body, carbohydrates are components of many enzymes, transport proteins, and are involved in DNA synthesis,” Young wrote in her Telegram channel, adding that carbohydrates help the thyroid gland function and normalize weight. It is important to give preference to the right carbohydrates, the specialist concluded.

Previously, the doctor named vegetable oils that should not be used for frying.
