Therapist, gastroenterologist Daria Utyumova listed food products that help improve mood. According to her, mood is improved by neurotransmitters – biologically active substances that affect the central nervous system and promote the production of serotonin, dopamine, endorphin, tryptophan, and norepinephrine. These substances help you feel a surge of energy and positive emotions. However, the content of neurotransmitters can decrease due to stress, lack of sleep and poor nutrition, Izvestia writes.

The most important foods that have a positive effect on mood are chicken and beef, fatty fish (trout, salmon, tuna), seaweed, bananas, nuts, dark chocolate, oatmeal and buckwheat porridge, celery. These products are recommended to be consumed daily in certain quantities. In addition, green tea, lemon water, ginger tea, pomegranate juice, cocoa and coffee can lift your mood.

Chicken and beef contain the amino acid tyrosine, which stimulates the production of dopamine and norepinephrine – substances that improve mood and the ability to concentrate. They are also rich in vitamin B12, which helps cope with stress. Fatty fish such as trout, salmon and tuna contain polyunsaturated fatty acids, which prevent an increase in the level of the stress hormone cortisol. They also contain B vitamins and magnesium, which help adapt to stressful situations and improve concentration.

Nuts also contain B vitamins and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Dark chocolate with more than 75% cocoa bean content is a natural antioxidant. It contains the amino acid tyrosine, which is converted into dopamine, a hormone that stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain. Dark chocolate also contains tryptophan, which helps reduce cortisol levels.
