Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevgeny Shevchenko (Restoration of Ukraine group) said that Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valeriy Zaluzhny could move to the post of Ambassador to the UK. This was reported by the Kommersant newspaper with reference to the people’s deputy’s speech in the YouTube program of Vadim Karasev, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Global Strategies.
Shevchenko claims that Zaluzhny allegedly approved his transition to foreign policy structures and should soon take the place of Ukrainian Ambassador in London. At the same time, according to the deputy, such an appointment may indicate that Zelensky is sending the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to “political retirement.”
However, according to the people’s deputy, Zaluzhny has the option of a career in politics within the country, since the general has a high level of support and approval – about 88%. Shevchenko is confident that Zaluzhny’s resignation can be officially announced in the office of the President of Ukraine as early as this week.
In addition, the Verkhovna Rada deputy denies the connection between Zaluzhny’s competition with Vladimir Zelensky and the imminent resignation of the commander in chief. According to Shevchenko, the President of Ukraine has disagreements with the general, and Zelensky does not tolerate this.
Let us recall that on February 4, President Zelensky, against the backdrop of spreading rumors, actually confirmed that he was “thinking” about Zaluzhny’s resignation.
