Vice-Chancellor of Germany called Nord Stream 2 a geopolitical mistake of Germany

Vice-Chancellor of Germany, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of the country Robert Habek believes that the Nord Stream 2 project was Germany’s geopolitical mistake.

As he stated in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, all European countries, except Germany and Austria, were always against him. “Now the pipeline has been built. It is unclear whether he will be able to get started. On this issue, a decision must be made in accordance with European and national legislation, ”said the minister, quoted by TASS.

Khabek recalled that according to the rules, companies that are engaged in the extraction of resources do not have the right to transport them. “This condition has not been met,” the minister said. “Under the old government of Germany, there was a lot of political pressure on the issue of permitting Nord Stream 2, and, despite this, it has not been put into operation,” said the vice-chancellor.

The minister said that in the event of an aggravation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, there is a possibility that Nord Stream 2 will never be launched. “Any new military aggression cannot remain without harsh consequences,” he stressed.
