The US and British militaries, with the support of six other countries, carried out strikes on 36 targets in Yemen controlled by the Houthis. This was reported in a joint statement.
It is clarified that the attack was supported by the authorities of Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and New Zealand. It is reported that 13 sites were attacked, where weapons, missile systems and installations, air defense systems and radars were located underground.
The text noted that the strikes are aimed at “protecting innocent lives and preserving freedom of navigation” in the Red Sea amid Houthi attacks on boats. “We will continue to protect lives and the free flow of trade on one of the world’s most important waterways,” the statement said.
The US added that the attack is a signal to the Houthis that they will face consequences if they “do not stop their illegal attacks.” At the same time, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps said that the strikes “are not an escalation.”
In addition, the US destroyed an anti-ship missile in Yemen, noting that it was ready to be launched against ships in the Red Sea. “In self-defense, a Houthi anti-ship cruise missile was struck,” the central command said in a statement.
Let us recall that in the Red Sea there is a coalition of several countries led by the United States, which ensures the safety of navigation. The US and UK have been striking Houthi positions in Yemen since January.
