A bill has been submitted to the State Duma that toughens the punishment for drivers who violate the law, a Rosbalt correspondent reports.
The bill proposes to supplement the Criminal Code with a new article 264.2, which establishes criminal liability for violation of traffic rules by a person subjected to administrative punishment and deprived of the right to drive vehicles.
Thus, the bill establishes criminal liability for violation of traffic rules, expressed in exceeding the established speed of a vehicle by more than 60 km / h, but not more than 80 km / h, or by more than 80 km / h, or driving in violation of the rules road traffic to the oncoming lane or to the tram tracks of the opposite direction, with the exception of cases of bypassing an obstacle, by a person subjected to administrative punishment and deprived of the right to drive vehicles for any of the similar offenses committed repeatedly.
The disposition of the projected article provides for an exception in relation to violations of traffic rules recorded by cameras.
In addition, as the maximum punishment for the above act, it is proposed to establish imprisonment for a term of up to two years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years.
More than 40% of drivers are not stopped by the fact that they are brought to administrative responsibility for speeding and they repeatedly violate traffic rules. Almost 10% of drivers grossly violate the rules, re-entering the lane for oncoming traffic, argued in the State Duma that the law should be toughened up.
