Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov said during today’s press call that Western countries are hesitant to conduct an interstate investigation into the causes of the crash of the Russian Il-76 military aircraft because they are afraid of admitting their guilt, the Kommersant newspaper reports. According to Peskov, Moscow fully supports the international investigation.
At the same time, Western countries are afraid of admitting guilt for the downing of the plane and are resisting the investigation in every possible way, Peskov believes. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about Russia’s openness to carrying out investigative measures at the international level, the press secretary of the Russian leader recalled. However, the Europeans do not express their readiness to cooperate, the Kremlin representative noted.
Peskov also said that Moscow considers the West itself to be one of the parties to the armed conflict. Therefore, many actions of European countries and the United States do not contribute to establishing dialogue between the parties.
Let us remind you that on January 24, a military aircraft of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (AF) Il-76 crashed on the territory of the Belgorod region. The Ministry of Defense confirmed the crash of a plane carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war. As a result of the disaster, all six crew members, three accompanying officers of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were killed.
