Bloomberg: EU and US are having difficulty agreeing on new aid packages for Ukraine

Kiev is facing problems due to a slowdown in arms supplies amid disagreements between the EU and the United States over the amount of funding and the number of weapons that should be supplied as part of new packages of military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency, citing sources in Western diplomatic circles.

According to the agency, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are finding it increasingly difficult to defend themselves due to a shortage of certain types of ammunition and weapons. In particular, the operation of air defense is at risk, since this system is almost entirely supported and maintained by Western technology. At the same time, Russia is increasingly striking targets with the help of military aircraft, Bloomberg notes.

However, Kyiv still has ammunition in the required quantities to respond to Russian attacks, the news agency’s sources emphasize. Western diplomatic circles are confident that financial assistance from the United States and the EU is a key aspect of successful operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (RF Armed Forces).

Earlier it became known that the European Union was unable to agree on a new tranche of €1 billion due to the principled position of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. In addition, Brussels fears that the constant supply of equipment and weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine could lead to a weakening of the security system of the association, and then of NATO.

Let us remind you that this week there will be a meeting of European defense ministers, at which the parties will discuss a possible expansion of assistance to Ukraine. By the end of winter, Europe plans to reach a consensus on the final amount of support.

Last fall, US President Joe Biden proposed to allocate $61 billion for Ukraine’s military needs, but this financial package has not yet been approved by Congress.
