VTsIOM published the results of a survey on the amount of money savings of Russians. According to sociologists, citizens are ready to call capital in the amount of 499,218 rubles “savings”. This is the average result of responses from different groups of respondents, the report shows.
VTsIOM experts have recorded an increase in Russians’ requests more than three times over the past 10 years – in 2013, on average, citizens considered an amount of 143,314 rubles to be “savings”. This is the minimum level of values in order to feel confident financially.
According to a new survey, women would like to have savings worth 365,357 rubles or more. Men need 691,092 rubles or more to be considered as “savings”. At the same time, among more mature citizens (35-44 years old), the amount of savings remains at a fairly high level – 667,252 rubles, sociologists note. The most “careless” in economic terms were young people under 25 years old – young people need 257,977 rubles in order to talk about having savings.
In addition, 28% of respondents said they expect savings to increase this year. The greatest optimists among this group are again young (18-24 years old) – more than half (53%) of them believe that over time they will earn exactly more than they do now. 24% of Russians expect a decrease in income, notes VTsIOM. 43% of respondents admitted that they do not expect any changes in their financial situation in 2024. The remaining 5% have no idea what could happen this year, so they are not ready to answer the question about changes in savings.
The survey was conducted among 1,600 people nationwide on January 20, 2024, using telephone calls.
