Irina Lyalina, acting dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the State University of Education, named products that can help combat insomnia.
Insomnia is an unpleasant condition that can lead to depression. Many people mistakenly believe that alcohol is a good sleep aid. Actually this is not true. Alcohol can indeed put you to sleep for a while, but then a stage of arousal sets in, and you will not be able to fall asleep as soon as it reaches your blood cells, Izvestia writes.
According to the expert, the following products can help combat insomnia: tea made from chamomile, lemon balm and mint; warm milk with honey; bananas and broccoli – they contain the amino acid tryptophan, which can promote sleep and stimulate the production of the sleep hormone melatonin; almonds – contain magnesium, which also promotes the production of melatonin; oatmeal – can be useful due to its high magnesium content, especially if it is prepared according to a special recipe; salmon – rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which can affect sleep quality.
To combat insomnia, you should avoid consuming caffeine and nicotine before bed. Regular physical activity is also important, as is going to bed and getting up at the same time. 30 minutes before bedtime, you need to turn off gadgets. However, it is worth remembering that the effectiveness of these methods may vary from person to person. If insomnia becomes a problem, it is recommended to consult a doctor for individual recommendations.
