Monitoring data: Russia lacks neurologists, endocrinologists and therapists

The situation with the shortage of doctors in primary healthcare in the Russian Federation is becoming increasingly acute. According to all-Russian monitoring, today the three most critical specialties in this regard have been identified.

Tsvich, a specialized analyst, spoke about this in an interview for the Reedus publication. It turns out that neurologists have remained in first place in terms of shortages for 2 years in a row. It often happens that patients are prescribed a visit to an endocrinologist, but there is simply no doctor in this specialty. This study also noted that endocrinologists ranked second. The third line was taken by the local therapist.

The study results confirm that there is a shortage of neurologists in the country: approximately 34% of survey participants in 2022 and 32% in 2023 noted this shortage. This situation has already become an established trend. The situation is similar with endocrinologists: 33% of Russians have felt the absence of such specialists in hospitals for two years now. There are also not enough local therapists, although, according to Tsvich, the situation has improved compared to the previous year. The study also mentioned cardiologists and ophthalmologists as shortages are also felt in hospitals.

The analyst said that to compile the rating, he took into account data from about 17 thousand patients.

In Russia, there is a standard waiting period for an appointment with a specialist, which is 14 days. If the patient has to wait longer than the specified period, it means that he has problems when contacting a specialist.
