A Turkish Airlines Boeing 737 passenger plane made an emergency landing at Istanbul airport due to a lightning strike, Sanayi Gazetesi reports. According to the publication, the plane abruptly changed its flight path and was forced to return to the airport a few minutes after takeoff.
The Boeing 737 was heading to Antalya. The flight began at 9:25 am Turkish time (the same as Moscow time). However, the pilots had to return to the airport due to a lightning strike on the hull of the airliner. The flight commander informed dispatchers that the pilots were taxiing back to land. The controllers gave permission for an emergency landing and promptly cleared the runway.
The emergency landing was successful. None of the passengers or crew members were injured. Technical personnel inspected the aircraft and carried out some necessary procedures to troubleshoot equipment problems. The pilots were then allowed to take off. At 11:56 the plane took off for Antalya.
Previously, an incident with lightning striking an aircraft occurred on the Russian flight Moscow – Tomsk. Then lightning struck the hull of the aircraft twice. The pilots managed to land the plane in Novosibirsk. There were no casualties.
