Experts were able to obtain preliminary data from decoding the black boxes of the Russian Il-76 military aircraft that crashed on January 24 with Ukrainian prisoners on board, RIA Novosti reports citing emergency services. At the same time, experts noted that the condition of the flight recorders allows one to obtain the necessary information quite quickly and clearly – all the boxes were preserved in acceptable condition.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the Russian Il-76 was shot down by Ukrainian Armed Forces missiles from the Kharkov region. On the plane there were 65 captured soldiers of the Ukrainian army, as well as 6 crew members and 3 officers of the Russian army.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that an attack on a military aircraft was a crime of Ukraine against its citizens. According to Putin, Kiev knew about the presence of military personnel on board the Il-76, but did not cancel the operation. The President also noted that the plane was attacked by missiles produced in NATO countries – France and the USA.
Initially, Ukrainian media confirmed the presence of prisoners from the Ukrainian Armed Forces on board the Il-76. Later, this information disappeared from the websites of leading Ukrainian publications. Then in Kyiv they took a break to study the details of the incident.
At the moment, the official position of Ukraine is to demand an international investigation into the causes of the crash of the military aircraft. The Kremlin believes that such an investigation should be directed against Kyiv, not Moscow. The Russian side has repeatedly stated the negative impact of the Il-76 disaster on further contacts with Ukraine.
