The political scientist named the general of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who could take Zaluzhny’s place

Political scientist Dmitry Zhuravlev suggested who could take the place of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valery Zaluzhny if he is eventually removed.

An expert, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky “really wants to remove Zaluzhny.” According to the political scientist, the position of Zaluzhny may be given to the Ukrainian general, commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky. Zhuravlev called this candidacy a compromise between the interests of the Ukrainian leader and the army.

At the same time, he considers the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, to be the best option for Zelensky himself. However, as the political scientist noted, Budanov is a non-military person. “If he is appointed by the current president, then the gap between him and the army will increase,” Zhuravlev explained his assumption.

Before this, member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Maryana Bezuglaya reported that Zaluzhny could be replaced as part of a potential transformation of Kyiv’s military strategy in 2024.

Earlier, Zaluzhny announced a change in the strategy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2024. In turn, Zelensky called the main goal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2024 the isolation of Crimea.
