Today, January 27, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade.
Residents of the city lived for almost 900 days under continuous bombing and artillery shelling, and also suffered from cold and hunger. The blockade was broken on January 18, 1943. After more than 370 days, Leningrad was completely liberated from the Nazi blockade.
According to the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, payments for the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade were received by all blockade survivors and other categories of citizens for whom they were provided. Smolny noted that about 1.5 billion rubles were allocated from the budget of St. Petersburg for payments for the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad.
In honor of the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade, the Trinity Bridge will be illuminated in the colors of the Leningrad Victory ribbon. Its spans will be illuminated in olive, which symbolizes victory, and its supports in green, symbolizing life. The commemorative lighting will be turned on at night along with outdoor lighting until January 29.
“The Leningrad Victory Ribbon and the torches of the Rostral Columns, the “Rays of Victory” and the Eternal Flame of the memorials are the main symbols of the memorable January days. Our city has become the center of anniversary celebrations, and we are doing everything possible to adequately celebrate the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade,” Beglov noted.
In addition, on January 27, from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00, the torches of the Rostral Columns will burn.
Let us recall that the siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days – from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944.
