The administration of Russian President Joe Biden is developing a new long-term strategy to support Ukraine, designed for 10 years. The aid plan for Kyiv is scheduled to be published in the spring, The Washington Post reports.
The publication notes that the main principle of the strategy that the US State Department is working on will be defense “while simultaneously moving towards the long-term goal of strengthening Ukrainian military power and the economy.” At the same time, the document, as stated in the article, will not contain a thesis about the need to return lost territories. The strategy plans to include assistance to Ukraine in conducting short-term military operations and assistance in implementing “political reforms.”
According to the authors of the publication, the strategy will retain one key condition – the allocation of an aid package to Kyiv in the amount of $61 billion. Journalists believe that such plans of the American administration are seriously different from the previous strategy and will affect the ability of the Ukrainian army to carry out a counter-offensive.
“The current idea is to ‘support Ukraine to hold its ground on the battlefield for now,’ and to ensure that Ukrainians ‘are much stronger by the end of 2024, and put them on a more sustainable path,'” it says. in the article.
Earlier, Newsweek revealed the reason for the termination of US aid to Ukraine.
