Texas Governor Greg Abbott criticized the position of the Presidential Administration of Joe Biden regarding migrants on the southern border of the United States, and also declared the state’s right to independently defend itself by force from the “invasion” of illegal immigrants, Fox News channel reports. According to Abbott, Biden and his government are not complying with United States immigration laws.
Abbott is convinced that the US executive branch, according to the constitutional order, is obliged to ensure compliance with laws throughout the country. However, according to the governor, Biden is ignoring the legislation and does not prevent the “invasion” of migrants into Texas. Abbott referred to the “Founding Fathers” of the United States, who gave the “states themselves” autonomy over security issues, including dealing with “external threats such as cartels smuggling millions of illegal immigrants across the border.”
The US Supreme Court has ordered the removal of barbed wire border barriers in Texas, but the state’s governor has ordered police to rebuild the fortifications amid the crisis.
Earlier, 25 state leaders signed a joint statement under the auspices of the Republican Governors Association (RGA), in which they accused Biden of the presidential administration’s alleged refusal to protect the US-Mexico border from migrants.
Let us recall that at the beginning of 2024, local authorities erected barbed wire fences in the area of Rio Grande and Shelby Park in the Texas city of Eagle Pass. This action provoked tensions between the state governor and the federal government.
