Zakharova: Polling stations abroad will open in those countries where Russia has diplomatic missions

Polling stations for voting in the upcoming presidential elections in the Russian Federation will open in all countries where Russia has diplomatic missions, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during today’s briefing. The sites will be opened, including in “unfriendly” countries, Zakharova emphasized.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the number of foreign polling stations in total reaches 300. Zakharova noted that the Russian side will do everything possible to secure the electoral process for citizens who live abroad. At the same time, the official representative of the ministry recalled administrative and criminal liability for attempting to disrupt the elections. In addition, Zakharova warned activists against “extremist” actions.

On January 24, the Central Election Commission approved the rules for holding elections in polling stations outside Russia. The number of polling stations decreased from 394 to 300 compared to 2018. Also, the time for voting may be reduced due to the threat to the life and health of citizens.

Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported about 2 million voters who are not in Russia.

The Russian presidential elections will be held on March 15–17, 2024.
