The student magazine DOXA was recognized as an undesirable organization in Russia, RBC reports, citing a comment by the head of the Duma commission to investigate the facts of interference of foreign states in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation, Vasily Piskarev. DOXA was included in the list of undesirables due to the fact that the publication’s journalists distributed “instructions for committing arson of military registration and enlistment offices, police departments and military equipment,” and also called for surrender to the Ukrainian military, the State Duma emphasized.
The Prosecutor General’s Office recognized the company Mnenie media zs, which owns the student publication, as an undesirable organization. According to deputies, the activities of DOXA can be called “hostile”, since its employees deliberately pushed Russian citizens to sabotage and other illegal actions. At the same time, the State Duma noted that the government has been closely monitoring the work of the publication in recent months, so this is a prepared and competent decision.
In addition, DOXA journalists, according to Piskarev, disseminated information on how to seize Russian universities.
The deputy also recalled that for cooperation with an undesirable organization you can receive an administrative penalty under Art. 20.33 and criminal under Art. 284.1. The maximum sentence is five years in prison.
The magazine’s website was blocked in February 2022 due to the spread of fakes about the Russian Army.
DOXA magazine was created in 2017 by students and graduate students of the Higher School of Economics (HSE). Initially, the magazine talked about the problems and needs of students at HSE and other universities. Then the publication was stripped of its status as a student organization at HSE and prohibited from publishing on behalf of the university. In February 2022, the journalistic collective DOXA spoke out against the SVO in Ukraine.
