Opposition politician and deputy Ryzhkov asked the Moscow City Duma to resign from his powers

Moscow City Duma deputy from the Yabloko party Vladimir Ryzhkov asked the parliament to resign from his powers, RBC reports with reference to the draft resolution. The Moscow City Duma approved the departure of the oppositionist. Ryzhkov worked in the Yabloko faction and often criticized the initiatives of the Moscow authorities, including the city mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The resolution states that Ryzhkov submitted a written application with a request to resign from his powers as a Moscow deputy. The politician did not vote for the capital’s budget for this year and did not appear at meetings of the city parliament for a long time. The Moscow City Duma had no comments regarding the work of the deputy and the statement received today.

Ryzhkov left Russia for Germany immediately after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. He also expressed his disagreement with the SVO. Until now, there has been no official information from parliament about the politician’s departure.

Previously, Ryzhkov also worked at the Higher School of Economics (HSE). He was a professor in the Department of World Economics and Politics but left the university last year.

Ryzhkov is a former State Duma deputy from Yegor Gaidar’s liberal party “Democratic Choice of Russia” (DVR). He also took part in the creation of the party “Our Home is Russia” (NDR) and the Republican Party (PARNAS). Ryzhkov was a close associate of Boris Nemtsov and ex-Minister of Economy Andrei Nechaev. Since 2016, he became a member of the Yabloko party and supported the candidacy of Grigory Yavlinsky in the 2018 presidential elections. In 2021, he was elected to the Moscow City Duma in a single-mandate constituency.
