Republican Senator Rand Paul, in an interview with the famous American journalist Tucker Carlson, said that the US Congress should meet Russia halfway and try to establish bilateral relations between states. According to Paul, there are different positions among congressmen regarding Moscow’s actions in the international arena, but most politicians are not seeking to find space to improve Russian-American dialogue.
The senator emphasized that the American authorities still feel like successors of the great politicians of the Cold War. However, today political processes have changed, and such thinking can no longer be constructive, Paul is sure. According to the senator, improving relations between Washington and Moscow could lead to stability in the future.
Last December, Paul called on Ukraine and Russia to move to negotiations. According to the politician, the Ukrainian conflict is at a stage that could allow Moscow and Kyiv to begin a dialogue and seek joint solutions.
In 2022, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree according to which his country could not negotiate with Russia while Vladimir Putin held the presidency. In response to this decision, Putin said that the conflict could have been ended faster if Kiev had decided on an official dialogue.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that only Ukraine can decide when exactly to begin negotiations with Russia and on what conditions they will take place. According to Biden, Ukraine’s problems cannot be solved “without the participation of Kyiv.”
