Sinking causes concern in the eastern citadel of Ambato

By 2022, the company will also allocate around $ 1 million just for the change of pipes and the same amount for a diagnosis of the networks.

“At around 07:30 today (Friday 17) we heard a loud noise, when we went out to see what had happened we observed that a truck was partly suspended in the air because there had been a huge hole, we believe it is due to the water leaks or because of the rains of the last days that seep in ”, narrated one of the residents of the Miravalle urbanization, Cumandá citadel, in the east of the city of Ambate.

In that area, the collapse of a section of the road generated fear and concern among residents.

It took almost five hours for the residents of the place to remove the truck that was a little short of falling completely into the gap formed in the streets Guagua Pichincha and Passage 1 of the urbanization. For these tasks they placed planks on one side for the car to come out, amid the concern of the people.

Gilton Camacho, a resident of the urbanization, regretted that the potable water connections in the sector are old, about 30 years old, that for that reason there are constant breaks and repairs of the pipeline and the consequent fillings.

But that the situation worsened because about three months ago a pipe broke and personnel from Emapa (Public Municipal Company of Potable Water and Sewerage of Ambato) fixed it, but the hole was left without asphalt and the water leaked from there of the last rains, reason why it considers that a hole formed that yielded.

He called on the authorities to provide a definitive solution, to change the connections because he considers that the pipes have reached their useful life, warning that, otherwise, two houses could suffer fatal consequences.

Gabriel Saltos’s house is one of the two that are near the foramen. He stated that both the main entrance, the garage and the patio are with subsidence, before which he requested that a work be done that allows to definitively solve the problem and not have to regret more serious consequences.

Ricardo López, manager of the Municipal Potable Water and Sewerage Company (Emapa), recognized that there are pipes that have reached their useful life, that for that reason this year with $ 1 million, network change projects were carried out, especially in the area urban, where more inconveniences are present today because most are from 30 or 40 years ago, made of asbestos cement, a material that is no longer used today.

He added that by 2022 the company will also allocate around $ 1 million just for the change of pipes and that a similar amount will also be placed to carry out a diagnosis of the urban area networks, so as not to make the replacements by sections, but to execute comprehensive jobs spanning multiple neighborhoods.

López clarified in the year 2022 the land registry will be carried out to identify the current state of the pipes, in order to have exact data on the networks of the urban area, in what percentage is close to being changed and in what proportion they work in good condition.

He said that as a result of the cadastre, the length of the pipeline in the urban area will be known, of which how much is in poor condition or about to collapse. This will allow working at critical points, by noting that the breaks in the pipes cause inconvenience to the public.

The manager of Emapa commented that according to the daily reports that are had, there are between 30 and 35 reports of pipe breaks per day due to different circumstances, before which he said that it is difficult to immediately meet all the requirements. (I)
