The Ministry of Agriculture reported a decrease in prices for eggs, chicken and sugar, the Izvestia newspaper reports, citing representatives of the ministry. The dynamics of producer prices shows that these products are becoming cheaper, officials noted. The Ministry of Agriculture linked the recent rapid growth in socially significant goods with the holiday period.
As of January 24, chicken eggs lost 0.2% for the first category (C1) and 0.4% for the second category (C2). Now such eggs cost about 89 and, accordingly, 78 rubles, the ministry said. At the same time, price dynamics affect consumer demand. People began to buy this product more often. The Ministry of Agriculture believes that eggs, despite the rapid growth at the end of 2023, still remain cheap compared to prices abroad.
In addition, the price of chicken has been decreasing for eight weeks in a row. The past week allowed the price to stabilize at around 159 rubles per kilogram of chilled chicken meat.
Sugar also fell in price by several rubles. Its cost decreased by almost 0.17%, the Ministry of Agriculture noted.
Earlier, the department reported a decrease in pork prices by 2.7%.
Last December, Vladimir Putin had to apologize for the sharp increase in the cost of eggs. According to the president, there was a “glitch in the government,” which led to a 40% increase in prices. Putin linked the price change to an increase in demand for products, while production volume remained the same. He promised to look into the problem and resolve the issue of egg consumption, because “he himself eats scrambled eggs with pleasure.”
