The Democratic Left will define in a national convention of the party, its position against the government of Guillermo Lasso. The event is scheduled for this Saturday, December 18, at 10:00, at the facilities of the College of Economists of Pichincha.
At the convention, Guillermo Herrera, national president of the party, will present his annual report, where in addition to defining the party’s political line against the government, a message will be sent about the participation of the Democratic Left in the elections for local governments.
At the meeting there will be an analysis of the work carried out by the assembly members on list 12 and the political line that will be set in 2022 will be defined, as the need to maintain critical independence with the Government will have to be assessed, but above all responsibility and seriousness of the ID in treating the laws, Herrera noted.
Democratic Left meets with the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso
Although the national legislator Wilma Andrade commented that the agenda does not conceive the definition of the party in front of the Government, since it is a statutory convention, in which the reports of the president of the political organization, the disciplinary and oversight council are expected. For the rest there will be a new convention in 2022.
However, Guillermo Herrera insisted that at the convention this Saturday the Democratic Left will define the roadmap that it will take in front of the Government from the National Assembly during the next year, and will ratify the legislative alliance with the Pachakutik movement.
In his opinion, the Government in the approval of the latest laws has called for dialogue, but does not have ears or receive the ideas and suggestions of the sectors involved.
He said that in 2022 there will be fundamental issues such as the Labor Code, which will require a broad dialogue with the political, social and union sectors, and there the ID will be willing to listen and make its voice in the Assembly not only of the workers, but from those sectors that do not have a formal job, from small and medium-sized enterprises.
“It leaves a bad taste in our mouths and not only to the Democratic Left, but to a significant number of public and private workers who, since January, will feel the increase in income tax payments,” Herrera stressed, referring to to the way the tax reform came into effect.
He indicated that in this process of construction of the Economic Development and Social Sustainability project, the Government did not listen and its strategy was to extend the dialogue as long as possible and commit to include some of the observations of the Democratic Left, but finally, thanks to the abstention from UNES, managed to pass that proposal through the Ministry of Law.
The political leader considers that the agreement between the government and UNES continues in the National Assembly, because in the voting of the last days it has been seen how the votes of the two benches coincide to appoint the members of the qualifying commissions that will appoint to the advisers of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
It is expected that this political meeting will be attended by provincial presidents, assembly members, former party leaders, youth leaders.
Elections
The Democratic Left in the meeting this Saturday, will ratify the opening to dialogue with all political forces and with a view to preparing for the 2023 elections, where it hopes to promote the internal figures of the political organization so that they can head the lists for the prefectures , mayors and parish governments.
In the coming months, the party on list 12 will have a process of renewal of the provincial directives and according to Guillermo Herrera, it will be sought that these processes are as democratic as possible and at the same time a proposal will be built with the Party’s democracy institute. Democrat of the United States, which is called “Winning with Integrity”, where the mechanisms for choosing pre-candidates will be established, where they must first meet training requirements. (I)
