The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, came down hard on State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveev for his “provocative speech.”
“The most dangerous enemy is the one who sits in the rear. He is rootless, cowardly, and is engaged in causing a split in the ranks of true patriots, trying to divide them by faith or nationality,” Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel, without specifying what kind of statement the deputy was talking about.
According to the head of Chechnya, Matveev’s statement, distributed on social networks, “should be assessed by the competent authorities.” Kadyrov noted that convinced Muslims fought against fanatics in the republic. He also recalled that Russia is a secular state in which it is allowed to “practice Islam, build mosques, and Muslims are obliged to defend the country.”
“And in the rear, you see, Matveev is talking about how to divide them into non-Muslims and Muslims after the North Military District and get rid of the latter in order to avoid provocation,” Kadyrov is indignant. In response, he proposed to “kick out one Matveev” so that there would be fewer provocations.
After Kadyrov’s angry words, State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveev published a post on his Telegram channel in which he clarified the situation.
According to him, Kadyrov’s reaction is connected with a fragment of his last year’s interview that is currently spreading on the Internet. The deputy explained that he was talking about the migration flow going into the Russian Federation and the penetration of representatives of radical Islamic views into the country. “I, of course, meant those terrorists, shaitans, as you call them, with whom you fought in your republic, and who were defeated there. And with whom we are now fighting in a special military operation,” the parliamentarian justified himself. He also apologized to all those who misunderstood him.
Earlier, Kadyrov announced the dispatch of another group of fighters from Chechnya to the Northern Military District zone
