Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in an interview with CBS, said that Moscow is aware of exactly how countries actually vote at the UN General Assembly (UNGA). According to Lavrov, many UNGA participants are demonstrating their position under pressure from the United States, Great Britain and other Western countries.
The UN General Assembly is structured in such a way that anti-Russian resolutions are voted for because Washington and London keep the financial savings of developing countries in their banks and force them to follow American and British foreign policy goals, Lavrov is sure. At the same time, according to him, in private conversations diplomats explain their decisions by personal interests in the West. None of the members of the UN General Assembly vote of their own free will—everyone does so at the direction of the United States, the minister concluded.
In addition, Lavrov did not agree with the assertion that Russia has ruined bilateral relations with the United States. He stressed that Moscow will not run “to Washington to ask Uncle Sam for forgiveness,” because Russia “has nothing to complain about.” At the same time, Lavrov refused to take steps towards the United States to try to restore the level of trust.
The head of Russian diplomacy from January 22 to 24 takes part in the UN Security Council debates on the problems of the Middle East and Ukraine.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry responded negatively to a question about the possibility of a meeting between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Russian counterpart on the sidelines of the New York summit. Instead, the Russian minister plans to have a series of contacts with high-ranking representatives of other countries.
