We ask that the Government act harshly and energetically in the fight against criminals and the insecurity that limits us and affects our business, but we do not give it the resources it needs to work.
The mobilization of the Armed Forces and the police costs money: food, gasoline, ammunition, salaries that must be paid daily so that the soldiers and policemen can devote themselves to their work. Money does not come out of thin air, there are no trees that carry bills. We are convinced of environmental protection, a nice principle, but we do not realize that in practice we have taken resources from the state, such as the exploitation of the Yasunà oil fields.
VAT vs. peace
What should be the scope of the activities of the Armed Forces during the internal armed conflict in Ecuador? That’s what our columnists say
The solution that the state treasury collects taxes from debtors and that the rich pay is more demagogic. They are already paying and of course they have to be collected, but we don’t even have precise figures on the debts or they are not published.
The only source from which the state pays its expenses is taxes. Of course, nobody likes to pay them, although there is something stupid in the statement that “I pay taxes to fatten the bureaucracy”, since in that bureaucracy there are also teachers and doctors and the health system and the defense of public order and peace that we gave the Armed Forces and the Police . Due to this need, he is requesting an increase in VAT to 15%. Except for the corrupt, the money is used for the state to fulfill its purposes. Withholding support for the inevitable increase is not the most patriotic move. There are parties that believe they will lose votes if they raise taxes. If the costs were excessive, they would be right. But now it is right to give the state money that it will return to us with greater certainty. This is how we can create wealth and live better, in peace and without fear.
Hero or villain…
Cost savings are also sought. That’s fine, but some of that spending is diluted in subsidies like fuel. But this has become a touchy subject. It’s like you want to enter a cave at the entrance of which is a fierce dragon capable of inflicting a lot of damage. There are politicized leaders who have made this a reason to oppose eliminating or targeting such subsidies. They have already threatened the government with strikes. If they do occur, they have proven to be very damaging, destroying parts of the capital and closing roads. The first to suffer are the Sierra people, farmers, flower growers, oil company employees who are even insulted at work. And the leaders present demands to the Government as if they were lists of demands of unionized workers and claim that by assuming such a role they represent the people. It would be good if they put forward a candidate for president in the next elections so that their real political power is known. Because up to this point they have stood out due to the violence of epidemics and the stupidity of some legislators.
In these two sources, the Government has enough money that it needs to overcome the current crisis. It is not nice to discuss these topics, but it is my patriotic duty to do so, even if it upsets many.
I must also insist on the abolition of the Montecristi Constitution, which the gangsters are abusing. (OR)
