In the first two weeks of 2024, current daily expenses of Russians were 20% higher than in the same period last year. This is stated in the report of the Romir holding, which tracks the actual purchases of citizens of the Russian Federation, writes Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
Having studied consumption data of 40 thousand Russians, 15 thousand households in 220 cities with a population of 10 thousand or more, experts came to the conclusion that an increase in weekly daily spending occurred in January for the first time in the last five years.
At the same time, it would be premature to talk about a change in the trend in consumer behavior of Russians based on the results of the first weeks of the year, says Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the center for market research at the Higher School of Economics, writes the Izvestia newspaper. He notes that this manifestation can be called a trend if it takes hold within three to four weeks. At the same time, the expert associated the increase in spending with a strong increase in prices for goods that people almost always buy when visiting a store – eggs, vegetables, chicken meat.
There are no official data on inflation in the second week of January 2024 yet.
Last year, there was an increase in prices for a number of goods, including prices for eggs in the Russian Federation in 2023 increased by 61.35%. Also in December 2023, cucumber prices increased by 40.4%.
