French mercenaries do not participate in hostilities in Ukraine. This was stated by the French Foreign Ministry, writes AFP.
Commenting on the attack by Russian forces on a foreign fighters’ point in Kharkov, the diplomatic department noted that France does not have mercenaries in Ukraine or anywhere else. They called the information from the Russian Ministry of Defense “gross manipulation of the Russians.”
Earlier, the Russian army attacked the location of foreign mercenaries in Kharkov, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported, emphasizing that the French were among the dead. “The building in which the mercenaries were located was completely destroyed. More than 60 militants were killed, over 20 were taken to medical institutions,” the Russian Defense Ministry added.
According to military expert and specialist in NATO armies Alexander Artamonov, the French mercenaries could have been seconded servicemen of the republic’s armed forces. Their tasks included the use of military equipment supplied by Paris, TASS reports. He noted that the French were most likely the instructors.
On January 18, French Ambassador Pierre Levy was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Last year, RTL reported that 100 French citizens were taking part in hostilities in Ukraine on Kyiv’s side.
