Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of Za Rulem magazine and auto expert, provided tips on how to safely drive in snowy conditions in a conversation with RT. According to the expert, the first and simplest advice that city authorities and the traffic police usually give is to refrain from traveling.
“But this is the simplest thing that can be advised, and people still leave. How is the snowfall situation different from the usual? Firstly, it is more difficult for a car to move due to the large amount of snow. If ice forms, it also becomes slippery. As a result, the car has less grip on the road and tire grip is reduced. Secondly, visibility is deteriorating,” Kadakov shared.
The expert listed several key rules for driving on the roads during snowfall.
“First, it is important to understand how your car behaves. For example, if there is no one behind you, you can try slowing down a few times at a low speed to understand how the car brakes on a given surface. Secondly, you need to move at a speed at which you can see clearly,” the expert emphasized.
The third important rule is to constantly analyze the situation on the road.
“You have to think not only about yourself, but also about ‘that guy.’ If your brushes work well, if your headlights are clean, if everything is in order with you, this does not mean that the other driver is also in order,” Kadakov explained.
