President Daniel Noboa introduced the bill to the National Assembly to have resources to deal with the internal armed conflict and the serious social and economic crisis we are going through. For this purpose, he proposes to amend Article 65 of the Law on the Internal Tax Regime, stating that the rate of value added tax (VAT) is raised from 12% to 15%.

Thinking, perhaps, more politically than in national reality, because increasing taxes takes away the votes of the masses, in the legislative body voices have already been raised against the proposal of the executive power, – except for those from their bench, whose votes are not enough – and are proposing alternative measures , considering, further, that this increase should not finance the GAD debt, alluding, among other things, that it would have serious consequences such as the impact on the economy and that it would encourage evasion. .

Furthermore, according to what this newspaper publishes in its edition of the 16th of this month, “the bench of the Civil Revolution will propose to increase the outflow of foreign currency by two points which will allow it to collect about 600 million dollars; impose a tax on special consumption such as alcoholic beverages and sugary drinks; demand a payment of up to 2% on the country’s great wealth, as well as revise what was approved a month ago, such as the forgiveness of interest, fines and income tax surcharges for large capitals. With all these measures that are proposed as an alternative to the VAT increase, around 5,000 million dollars could be collected.”

Meanwhile, the executive estimates that about $1 billion is needed to deal with the main problem Ecuador faces: the insecurity and violence that make the country one of the most dangerous on the planet, where no one wants to visit, much less live. This means a greater imbalance in fiscal finances, which affects the provision of all government services and the disinvestment of domestic and foreign nationals, which deepens the gap in the country’s economy, the bankruptcy of large, medium and small enterprises, while extortionists of all kinds and quantities continue to affect residents with kidnappings and murders ; And, the prisoners continue to rule from prison, spreading terror everywhere, turning the country into a place of war, where no one lives in peace.

What kind of economy can develop in such conditions? Children are also damaged by this social crisis, because there are threats in virtual classes. No one knows if he will return home alive. Those who leave their homes do so because they cannot otherwise feed their families. And this difficult, painful and painful situation cannot be prolonged, a measure is needed, although difficult – hopefully temporary – to eradicate what many, in so many years, have not even tried: putting an end to the drug trade, insecurity and violence. And it has to be right away, we can’t wait. Crime haunts us.

The president, who shows us that with courage, frontality and determination you can do it when you want, has the support of the vast majority of the Ecuadorian people. We want peace, regardless of the price! (OR)
