The chief nutritionist of the Moscow Department of Health, Antonina Starodubova, told who should stop eating oranges, despite their benefits, and also named the daily intake of these citrus fruits.
According to her, 100 g of orange pulp contains about 50% of the daily value of vitamin C. The fruit also contains vitamin A, B vitamins, bioflavonoids, fruit acids, essential oils and minerals – potassium, calcium and zinc.
Starodubova, in an interview with Moscow 24, explained that oranges are useful for strengthening the immune system and preventing seasonal respiratory diseases, as well as for the health of the cardiovascular system. Vitamin C in the fruit helps the walls of blood vessels remain strong and elastic, and fiber helps normalize lipid metabolism, the nutritionist added.
At the same time, the specialist urged people to observe moderation when consuming citrus fruits. “No more than one or two oranges a day,” she warned. Oranges should be avoided in case of individual intolerance and exacerbation of chronic gastrointestinal diseases, since fruit acids have an irritating or stimulating effect on the digestive organs, Starodubova concluded.
Previously, gastroenterologist Kashukh warned about the consequences of eating sprouted and green potatoes.
