Members of Socio Bosque are designated as Guardians of the Amazon for their conservation work in Ecuador

The Socio Bosque initiative provides an annual incentive of 1.5 million dollars for caring for and conserving the forest resource in Amazonian communities.

For conserving more than 276 thousand hectares of tropical humid forest, the appointment of Guardians of the Amazon several representatives of the communities of the provinces of Napo, Sucumbíos, Orellana and Pastaza who participate in the Socio Bosque Project.

The recognition was carried out within the framework of the event Meeting of Peoples and Nationalities of the Northeast Amazone which was organized by the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition together with the Kichwa Rukullacta people.

Socio Bosque provides an annual economic incentive of 1.5 million dollars for caring for and conserving the forest resource to these communities. The initiative benefits 4,106 families and 18,049 people in the aforementioned provinces.

Gladis Shiguango, the first woman to hold the dignity of the presidency of the Kichwa Rukullacta People, indicated that the conservation of their territories should promote the economic development of families that need employment and sustenance for their homes.

Meanwhile, Gustavo Manrique, Minister of the Environment, pointed out that “it is pleasant to make visible the result of the good use of the incentive provided by the Socio Bosque Project, by the responsible and committed communities in conserving the natural heritage. This alliance generates activities that boost the economy of the sector and allow the livelihood of thousands of families that promote bio-enterprises focused on conservation, in a sustainable production system ”.
