Muscovites were told about the weather for the Old New Year. The forecast was presented by the head of the situation center of Roshydromet, Yuri Varakin, RT reports.
According to the weather forecaster, the Moscow region will again face severe frosts. He noted that the cooling from near-zero temperatures to -23 degrees will be sharp.
At the same time, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, is waiting for “miraculous transformations.” According to his forecast, they will begin to occur in the atmosphere of the capital on the night of January 11. “Wonderful transformations in atmospheric circulation will take place in Moscow during the pre-New Year days, and they will begin tomorrow (January 11 – ed.). A cyclone is approaching Moscow; tonight there will be heavy snow, blizzards, and increased wind in places tonight,” the forecaster added.
He warned that the weather in the capital will be extremely changeable until January 14: on the evening of January 10 it will be from minus 8 to minus 10 degrees, and by the morning of the 11th the temperature will rise sharply to zero degrees. Then the cyclone will leave, cold Arctic masses will rush into Moscow, which is why by the evening of January 11 the temperature will drop to minus 11–13 degrees. From January 12, the temperature in the city will continue to drop to atypically low values, Vilfand noted, the Moscow city news agency reports.
