The Miss World 2021 with little public, virtually and in person due to the contagion of COVID-19 from some candidates

Some applicants are isolated due to contagion, which is why this measure was decided.

The Efe agency reports that the Miss World 2021 organizers will implement additional precautionary measures at the final gala this Thursday, including less public attendance and the virtual participation of some candidates, after reporting cases of covid-19 in the contest.

The objective is to prevent the spread of the coronavirus during the final gala of the 70th edition of the contest, which is held at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum of Puerto Rico from 7:00 p.m. local time (23:00 GMT).

The final of the international beauty pageant will have fewer seats available to the public in order to ensure social distancing, according to the statement.

Some of the contestants, who tested positive for covid-19, will virtually participate in the contest, said the organizers, who did not specify their names and the exact number, however.

Two days ago, however, Miss World reported that seven candidates were in asylum due to possible contagion of covid-19 and that, if the result is positive, they will not attend the gala in person.

The number of infections was raised yesterday by the Puerto Rico Health Department to 17 cases, including candidates and technical personnel.

In addition to the aforementioned measures, the use of masks will be mandatory at the Colosseum and the vaccination card will be required to enter.

“The safety of everyone involved is our top priority. All the events that the contestants have participated in have been spectacular and we do not expect less from the final, ”organizers Brock Pierce and Julia Morley told EFE in a joint statement.

“A positive result will not imply, however, that the infected candidates are out of the competition, even if they cannot participate in the final show,” wrote the Efe agency on Wednesday, December 14.

But on the Instagram account of Arquitecto de Misses (@arquitectodemisses) he says: “As you read it, the Miss World contest has been canceled, they have not yet made an official announcement but we will find out soon. Yesterday they tried to record the show but they even had to remove Miss Bahamas because it was confirmed positive after she was with all the women for more than 6 hours in rehearsals. Even Julia Morley has Covid but they don’t want to say anything. We’ll see the end of this ”.

The representative of Ecuador is Ámar Pacheco, daughter of the Ecuadorian singer Silvana Ibarra and the musician and composer Gustavo Pacheco.

Efe also reported on December 14, that ninety-eight contestants have been in the Caribbean island for almost a month participating in different activities of the contest, which reaches its final stretch this Thursday with a gala at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico in San Juan. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been some 223,000 COVID-19 infections and 3,279 deaths in Puerto Rico, which has the highest vaccination rate in the entire United States.
