Since the beginning of winter, snow melting and snow receiving points in St. Petersburg have already received more than 1.5 million cubic meters of snow masses, dump trucks have completed more than 75 thousand trips. As the press service of Smolny told RosBalt news agency, the volumes of snow removed compared to last year have increased – then, during the same period, about 1.2 million cubic meters of snow were removed.
As noted by the governor of the Northern capital, Alexander Beglov, by the beginning of the current winter season, Vodokanal of St. Petersburg and the relevant departments had carried out all the necessary work to prepare snow collection points and equipment necessary for cleaning the city, and also optimized the routes of specialized transport.
Currently, recycling is carried out at 11 snow melting and 7 snow collection points. All of them operate as normal and receive snow masses in the planned volume. Removal is carried out around the clock. As last year, the snow melting point on Furniture Street became the leader – in the new season it has already received more than 192 thousand cubic meters of snow.
According to city authorities, modern technologies are used for efficient and timely snow removal. In particular, a special automated system allows you to obtain accurate data on the amount of snow received. And the measurement of the volume of snow in the body of a car is carried out using non-contact laser scanning: the car passes under the frame of the scanning device, and the data is automatically entered into the accounting system.
Let us note that the frosty and sunny weather that prevailed in the Northern capital during the New Year holidays has been replaced by warming. According to the forecast of the Chief Forecaster of St. Petersburg, Alexander Kolesov, in the coming days, under the influence of an atmospheric front coming from the north, snowfalls will begin in the city again. At the same time, on January 11 in St. Petersburg the temperature will again drop to -15 degrees.
