At a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded to name the official who is responsible for the elimination of landfills throughout the country. The meeting was broadcast by the Russia 24 TV channel.
Addressing the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Alexander Kozlov, Putin asked: “Who exactly is in your ministry dealing with this issue?” In response, Kozlov gave three surnames, to which he received the following three blitz questions: “Who is the main one? Who is in charge? Who is personally personally responsible for the results of work? “
Kozlov replied that this was his deputy, Murad Kerimov. “I heard this name,” Putin commented.
He also pointed out that by the end of 2024, it is planned to liquidate 191 landfills within the city boundaries in the country, including 111 by the end of 2023. And for 104 landfills there is no project documentation for liquidation.
Let us remind you that in September the head of the Russian ecological operator (REO, the operator of the “garbage reform”) Denis Butsaev warned that Russia in the coming years could find itself in a state of garbage collapse. According to him, over the past decade, the average Russian has begun to produce twice as much waste: about 450 kg per year, and 10 years ago it was 250 kg.
Measures to limit the growth of the volume of garbage must be taken as soon as possible, Butsaev emphasized. According to him, given the structure of the consumer economy in Russia and around the world, “if we do nothing from the point of view of self-restraint, we will grow at a collapsing pace.” “There is a task, where possible, to move from one-time to reusable. And the rejection of certain types of difficult-to-process goods and packaging, ”he explained.
