The coming of age ceremony of 15-year-old Eli, the son of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, took place in Akhmat-Yurt. Kadyrov Sr. himself announced the ceremony on his page during “In contact with”.
Kadyrov explains that his son is 15 years old. According to the Chechen tradition, young men come of age at this age. “According to our beautiful ancient traditions, tying a weapon belt takes the main place in a beautiful ritual, after which a young man is considered a full man, a defender of the Fatherland and family,” writes Kadyrov Sr.
The ceremony of tying the belt was performed by his uncle Magomet Kadyrov. The first dagger was presented to Eli by the head of the Council of Alims of the North Caucasian Federal District Khozh-Akhmed Kadyrov. The brother of Kadyrov Sr., the mufti of Chechnya Salakh-Khadzhi Mezhiev, put on Eli’s hat.
Kadyrov clarified that every adult Chechen and a true konakh (worthy man) had to take care of a belt with a dagger and a hat as sacred attributes of pride and nobility.
