The total wealth of the 500 richest people on the planet increased by $1.5 trillion in 2023; the head of Tesla Inc. regained first place in the Bloomberg Billionaires ranking. Elon Musk, Interfax reports.
Musk’s fortune grew by $95.4 billion this year thanks to a 105% rise in the value of Tesla shares (doubling) and reached $232.393 billion. As a result, he surpassed French billionaire Bernard Arnault, who took first place in the ranking a year earlier.
Arnault heads and controls the world’s largest manufacturer of luxury goods, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA. The general downturn in the global economy and the decline in demand for luxury goods have limited the rise in the value of LVMH shares; the company’s shares have risen in price by 8.4% this year.
Currently, Musk’s wealth exceeds Arnault’s ($178.979 billion) by more than $50 billion.
Founder of Amazon.com Inc. Jeff Bezos has added $70 billion to his wealth this year, putting it roughly on par with Arnault’s.
Microsoft Corp. founder’s net worth Bill Gates increased to $140.511 billion in 2023, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer – to $130.529 billion. Gates and Ballmer round out the top five in the Bloomberg Billionaires ranking.
Indian billionaire and owner of the Adani Group Gautam Adani lost $37.3 billion at the end of 2023 as a result of accusations from Hindenburg Research of market manipulation and reporting fraud.
