State Duma deputy Lantarova proposes to improve medical care for schoolchildren from families of nomadic peoples

State Duma deputy Yana Lantratova proposed making amendments to legislation aimed at improving medical care for schoolchildren from families of nomadic peoples. According to a letter sent to the head of the Ministry of Education Sergei Kravtsov and provided to RT, this proposal is intended to resolve the issue of promptly providing care for the health of children whose parents follow a traditional nomadic lifestyle.

In her appeal, Lantratova noted that in Russian educational institutions, including boarding schools, children study who are characterized by a nomadic or semi-nomadic lifestyle in the context of traditional economic activities.

This category of children, according to her, has the right to various benefits, such as provision and free accommodation at the place of study, in accordance with the state policy of supporting indigenous peoples.

Currently, current legislation recognizes only parents, adoptive parents, trustees and guardians as legal representatives of minors responsible for making decisions regarding the medical care of children.

This rule creates problems for children in need of urgent medical care, since determining the location of a legal representative becomes difficult due to a nomadic lifestyle.

In this regard, Lantratova proposed amending federal legislation in order to entrust the responsibilities of guardians or trustees in relation to children from among indigenous peoples living around the clock in places of education (in boarding schools) and whose parents lead a traditional lifestyle to the relevant educational organizations with parental consent.
