Russian car enthusiasts warned about the danger of snowdrifts on cars

Russian car enthusiasts were encouraged to use a snow-free car to drive onto highways because a snowdrift on the roof could lead to a serious accident. The danger of snow on the roof of the car is said in a statement by the state-owned company Avtodor.

We will remind, earlier in the center “Phobos” reported that in Moscow over the past day fell 20% of the monthly norm of precipitation. There was no such snowfall that day for 28 years.

Avtodor explained that a snowdrift on the roof not only reduces the aerodynamic properties of the car and affects fuel consumption, but can also cause an accident. There are several options here. First: when braking, snow melted on the roof of the car can slide onto the windshield, completely blocking the view. The windshield wipers will not be able to quickly cope with an avalanche on the windshield, and stopping on the side of a high-speed road is prohibited by traffic rules.

Second, at high speed, snow and ice from the roof of a car can fly backwards and damage other cars. Third, when visibility is poor on the road, snow can make the car completely invisible, which can also lead to an accident.

In addition, on toll road sections, if there is a large snowdrift on the car, the classification of vehicles may be incorrect, since the system determines the vehicle category by the highest point.
