It finally became clear whether drinking food with food is harmful

There is an opinion that you should not drink water during meals or immediately after, so as not to dilute gastric juice and not interfere with digestion. However, nutritionists believe that this statement is a myth.

At the same time, they agree that if you drink a glass of water before meals, you can dull the feeling of hunger and eat less, writes aif.ru with reference to nutritionist Marina Kopytko.

What happens in the body when food and drinks enter it? According to doctors, in the distal part of the stomach, food is crushed to a paste-like state and mixed with hydrochloric acid, then the food gradually moves into the duodenum, passing through the muscular sphincter. And if you drink liquid, it will bypass the accumulated food along the walls of the stomach and quickly enter the distal section, and then into the duodenum. In this case, water will flow into the distal part of the stomach gradually – within 5-15 minutes, because in the folds of the wall of the organ there are so-called pockets for water retention. In other words, the liquid passes faster than solid food, but does not mix with acid and stomach contents, and does not interfere with digestion.

And also, doctors note, the digestive system adapts to food intake and constantly produces the required volume of juice for digestion.

Moreover, sometimes a person receives more water with food than separately from it – water, for example, is found in vegetables and fruits.

In general, the human body regularly receives water at the same time as food, and therefore is designed to absorb it all together, nutritionists summarize, emphasizing that water does not interfere with the process and speed of food digestion. They claim that you can drink it in reasonable quantities before, during and after meals.
