Putin allowed the Russian Guard to include volunteer formations

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law giving the Russian Guard the right to include volunteer units. The document was published on the official legal information portal.

According to the text of the law, the Russian Guard, based on the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, will be able to include volunteer formations, whose participants will be subject to the same benefits and social guarantees that apply to mobilized, contract military personnel and members of volunteer units assisting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that volunteer formations of the Russian Guard can be involved in combat missions during the period of mobilization, martial law, counter-terrorism operation regime, in conditions of armed conflict and several other cases.

The number of volunteer units, the order of their work and areas of operation, as well as the tasks facing them will be determined by the Russian Guard. To join such formations, citizens will have to enter into an appropriate contract.

In addition, Putin signed a law on criminal liability for discrediting Russian National Guard volunteers. These amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation were previously adopted by parliament. Another law adopted by parliament as part of the same package amends the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses and provides for monetary fines for discrediting volunteer formations of the Russian Guard, TASS notes.
