NYT: Moscow is sending “signals” of readiness for negotiations on Ukraine

Russia, through intermediaries, sends “signals” about its readiness for negotiations on Ukraine. The New York Times writes about this with reference to former high-ranking Russian officials.

The media notes that the mediators allegedly declare Moscow’s readiness to freeze hostilities within the current borders. It is reported that the Russian Federation is “ready to stay at its current positions,” but “does not want to retreat even a meter.”

At the same time, the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, said that the theses set out by the newspaper “are conceptually incorrect.” He emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “really ready for negotiations,” but there is a condition. “Putin is really ready for negotiations, he said so. Russia is still ready to negotiate, but only to achieve its goals (within the framework of the SVO – ed.),” Peskov noted.

Earlier, Putin noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were suffering significant losses and had already squandered their reserves, “trying to show the owner results.” And Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu clarified that the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the beginning of the special operation exceeded 383 thousand military personnel killed and wounded.

The day before, CNN reported that Ukraine could be defeated in the conflict by the summer of 2024.
