The labor shortage in 2022–2023 in Russia has increased significantly. This was reported in a study by Nikolai Akhapkin, a researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, writes the Izvestia newspaper.
According to the expert’s calculations, who also refers to Rosstat data, at the end of the current year the country lacks approximately 5 million workers. Thus, by the middle of this year, 6.8% of the payroll number of employees was required to fill vacant positions, while last year there was a shortage of 5.8% of workers. Taken together, in all industries, the shortage of workers in 2023 was approximately 4.8 million people, Akhapkin noted.
According to him, the labor shortage in Russia has grown sharply over the past two years. The consequence has already been a slowdown in the growth rate of the Russian economy, the expert added.
At the same time, the Potok HR-Tech study notes that this year 88% of the companies it surveyed faced a staff shortage, especially representatives of large businesses (93%). 13% of companies have stopped recruiting for some of the positions, and 2% have completely abandoned the search, noted in the material, Kommersant provides excerpts.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova noted that Russia will need an additional 2 million workers by 2030, with the greatest need in the manufacturing sector, as well as transport and logistics. And the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Anton Kotyakov stated that the Russian economy needs more than 73 million people by 2030.
