State Duma deputy proposes labeling medications for drivers

State Duma deputy Sultan Khamzaev proposed introducing special labeling on packages of medical drugs that can have a dangerous effect on the ability to drive a car. A copy of the letter sent to Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov is at RT’s disposal.

In his address, the deputy emphasized that, according to the current legislation, drivers are prohibited from driving a vehicle while intoxicated or with a certain level of alcohol in the body, which is well known to motorists.

However, as Khamzaev noted, there are medications, the use of which is also prohibited before driving (this mainly applies to antidepressants, tranquilizers, antipsychotics, etc.) or the use of which is not recommended to drive. In this case, many drivers do not always realize the risk of using a particular drug. Sometimes a common medicine, the effect of which on the ability to drive is underestimated, can cause an accident, the parliamentarian added.

Khamzaev proposed introducing special labeling on packages of medications with a warning on a red background if driving after taking them is prohibited, and on an orange or yellow background if driving is not recommended due to possible individual side effects. This proposal aims to improve road safety and increase citizen awareness.
