The next COP28 will be held in Azerbaijan

The international climate forum COP28 (Conference of Parties) in the United Arab Emirates recently ended. This important event dedicated to combating climate change and preserving the environment brought together participants from all over the world, writes FederalPress.

The main topics of discussion at the conference were issues of strengthening the international fight against climate change, support for developing countries, and an important place was taken by the analysis of the progress achieved in implementing the Paris Agreements.

The country that will host the next conference has also already become known. Azerbaijan will become it.

The issue of the location of the next forum should have been decided last summer. However, the political situation in the world complicated the process, and it was postponed indefinitely.

On the one hand, Russia blocked all European states, which created obstacles in choosing a suitable host country. At the same time, Armenia and Azerbaijan vetoed each other due to the escalating conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, which further complicated the process.

The issue with the host party was resolved only on December 7, when Baku and Yerevan signed a peace agreement.

Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Alexander Zakondyrin noted that this outcome was an important step in resolving world conflicts and allows us to focus efforts on joint solutions to global environmental problems.
