The topic of negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine is truly irrelevant. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the words of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
“We really believe that the topic of negotiations is irrelevant. There is no basis, no foundation, no prerequisites for such negotiations,” Peskov explained, Interfax reports. He also recalled that Kyiv refused negotiations at the insistence of Great Britain in the spring of 2022.
At the same time, Ukraine has legally prohibited any negotiations with the Russian Federation, Peskov added. Speaking about the “peace formula” that Zelensky talks about, the Kremlin representative noted that “you need to open your eyes and look at the facts.” According to him, “they are trying to look for her without Russia’s participation.” “At the very least, this is an absurd process; it has no potential to achieve results,” Peskov added.
Let us recall that the day before, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said during a press conference that the topic of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine is now irrelevant. According to him, Kyiv is currently working on a common position with 50 countries on its “peace formula,” which they plan to transfer to the Russian Federation. He also stated Moscow’s disinterest in peace negotiations, which, in his opinion, is evidenced by the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin about the immutability of the goals of the Northern Military District.
Let us note that the Russian Federation previously reminded Kyiv of the adopted decree, which prohibits direct negotiations with the current leadership of Russia. Let us add that Zelensky announced the “peace formula” in November 2022. It involves, among other things, the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the cessation of hostilities and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
