On Palace Square you can send an original postcard for free via New Year’s mail

The New Year’s post office starts operating on Palace Square in St. Petersburg – from 17:00 to 21:00 you can send a custom postcard to anywhere in Russia for free. As RosBalt was informed by the press service of Smolny, the action will last until December 29.

“In our era of digitalization and high technology, many will be pleased to receive a hand-signed New Year’s card. This will give special pleasure to the older generation. Postcards from Palace Square will delight your loved ones and friends who are now far away for various reasons; they will convey your warmest congratulations,” said the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov.

New Year’s postcards contain drawings of the winners of a children’s competition dedicated to winter sports, organized by the Petersburg Diary newspaper. There are also postcards dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the siege, the 110th anniversary of the Aurora cinema and the Dynamo St. Petersburg hockey club.

As the Smolny press service noted, the public space is designed in the style of a five-meter floor lamp, “to remind of home comfort and family values.”

This year, the New Year’s Post will also operate from December 19 to January 7 in Moscow at the St. Petersburg stand at the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia”. In the first month of operation, the exhibition in the Northern capital has already been visited by more than 200 thousand people, most of whom are children and youth.

The New Year’s post office on Palace Square first opened in December 2021 – then more than 20 thousand cards were sent. And last year their number was already more than 45 thousand.

Let us note that New Year’s exhibitions and fairs have opened in St. Petersburg, and Christmas tree markets have also begun to operate, the addresses of which can be found here.

In addition, the city on the Neva is hosting a charity event called “Tree of Wishes” – postcards with more than a thousand children’s wishes are hung on 23 Christmas trees located throughout the city. Anyone can be Santa Claus and give a child what he dreams of.
