Eight violent deaths were registered between Sunday and Monday in Guayaquil and Durán. There are already more than 620 cases in Zone 8

In the last 24 hours, eight investigations have been opened for violent deaths in Zone 8, which includes Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón.

The first case occurred in La Prosperina, at midnight on Sunday, outside a food business. Two men on a motorcycle arrived at the scene and shot Jorge Javier Álava, 31, who died in a hospital minutes later.

But the hitmen also wounded Cristian Alejandro Reyes, the owner of the premises, who had just closed his business. Reyes was shot and, although he was taken to the Mount Sinai hospital by his relatives, he bled to death. The restaurant owner had no criminal record.

Álava, the apparent target of the attack, had two prior records for robbery. The police raised several projectiles at the scene.

Hours later, in the Julio Cool cooperative of Duran canton, a lawyer was assassinated inside his house. Supposedly the man was connected to a virtual audience on a computer, around 2:00 p.m., when he was allegedly stabbed by a close friend.

The police arrived at the house and took the wounded man to a nearby hospital, where the death was confirmed.

That night there were three more violent deaths. Derlin Sebastián, 12, died in the middle of a bullet attack on the night of this Monday the 13th in the Quito neighborhood of the Posorja parish, belonging to Guayaquil.

The event was reported around 6:00 p.m. Derlin was sitting on a sidewalk playing with his cell phone when two motorcycles arrived and began shooting at the young people who were in the area, according to the residents.

They all managed to run, except for Derlin, who was hit by a shot in the neck. The boy’s family put him on a motorcycle and took him to the maternity hospital in that town.

“We were seeing how they resuscitated him and we called an ambulance to transfer him urgently to Guayaquil, because there they couldn’t do more, but there was no ambulance, they are far away or damaged,” explained one of the boy’s aunts, who arrived at the Guayaquil morgue. the morning of this Tuesday, December 14, together with the father of the child to file the complaint and take the body.

The minor went into cardiac arrest at 6:31 p.m., he couldn’t stand it anymore; his lungs filled with blood.

Two more crimes were reported in Guayaquil that night. Juan Peñafiel Murillo, who was on a motorcycle in the vicinity of a fiscal campus of the 9 de Octubre cooperative, in the Fertisa sector, in the south of the city, was shot by a man who arrived in a white vehicle from Tucson and he got out of the car to attack.

At least 19 ballistic evidence was found at the scene. The victim had a history of robbery, trafficking in illicit substances and had suffered two attacks in less than six months, said Cristian Galarza, in charge of the National Police in that area.

That same day, Jhonny Peñafiel Plúas, about 25 years old, was assassinated in block 4 of the El Fortín sector, in the northeast of the city. According to preliminary data, two men on a motorcycle were responsible for the attack.

“Two ballistic signs have been found: one deformed and one in good condition,” said Leonelo Pérez, the prosecutor on duty.

At the same time, in block 3 of the Popular Bastion, Luis Felipe Farías Salazar was killed. At the scene of the crime, the policemen raised three ballistic evidence.

Another death, apparently a suicide, was registered hours later in the Litoral Penitentiary. The body of an inmate was found hanging in the bathrooms of Pavilion 6. The body was transferred to the morgue to determine the cause of death of the inmate, because in recent months several prisoners have been hanged in the middle of the gang struggle to win the pavilions.

In all cases, police units began investigative procedures to identify those responsible for the murders.

So far in 2021, in Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón) at least 625 violent deaths have been registered, more than double the crimes registered in 2020, when 290 deaths occurred (from January to December) violent (I)
